  • How NOT to Save Money
    .

Many corporations try to save money during difficult economic times by cutting out incentive programs. Those of us in this industry shouldn't make a similar mistake by reducing participation in trade shows! Why? Because they are the most cost-effective marketplace. Whether your role is as a buyer or supplier here are four good reasons to be active at trade shows--compliments of the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR).

    Adding Value to Proposals
    .

Budgets are tight. Buyers want more of everything--for less. Sellers want to protect margins. Corporate clients want their event to meet specific objectives. It would seem that these wants are in opposition to each other but all stakeholders can achieve their desired results by looking at new ways to add value to the final product.

19 leading meeting and incentive industry experts identified 113 Proposal Enhancement Ideas that both suppliers and buyers can use. Media Relations--It's Not Rocket Science
    .

You know who they are... the companies that receive enormous amonts of press. How do they do it? The broad answer is that these companies have developed a proactive strategy for the media. We're not talking about rocket science. We labor over sales and marketing plans to get and keep customers. Why not think of the media as your customers and include this influential group in your business plan?

Incentive and meeting industry writers are always looking for stories about innovative programming or technology being used in a unique way. But, be prepared to provide client names and budget information. Also, keep the media aware of your special areas of expertise so that you can be a resource for topical interviews. Volunteer to author an article for one of the trades. Send photos of impressive events you have produced. Most importantly, when writers call, be available. Deadlines are always looming and writers cannot wait--they will call someone else if you don't respond quickly. Make yourself a media resource, and your company will reap the rewards of a high-profile media presence.
